This city is not for everyone, if you like shopping malls and big crowded cities it is for you. It may be cheap but if you want to live in a good location with swimming pool, go to nice rooftops and restaurants, use taxis then it is similar cost to western countries. The island is beautiful. Many tourists, especially for overrated Full Moon Party that elevates prices a lot. Roads are in good condition, you would need a scooter to get around, tourists drive very bad and irresponsibly. Wear a helmet! Most people I speak to confirmed my belief that Marrakesh is a place to visit for a few days max. The excitement and chaos are novel for a short time, particularly in the old medina. Kathmandu has frequent power outages as of December 2019 even though everyone says otherwise, as does Pokhara. Mauritius is indeed a great place to live in as a Digital Nomad ! They have recently released the Premium Visa for digital nomads that allows to live on the island for at least 1 year (renewable). Co-working spaces tend to not allow taking calls frequently at your desk. I tried many of the highest rated ones in Montpellier and was told that people expect quiet focus and calls need to be done in phone booths or in the corridors. No one uses noise cancelling headphones. Not ideal if your job requires lots of meetings/phone calls. I've ended up working from home.

I spent one week there and it was more than enough. I stayed within 10 minutes walking distance to the center with its shopping mile and the Hilton Hotel. Internet was stable, but I didn´t feel comfortable at all. I felt a certain agressiveness, escecially on weekends. I've been in Essaouira for a week now and it's a welcome break from the chaos that is Marrakech. Much quieter with elements of the old medina but scaled down and arguably prettier. You're not pestered like you might be in Marrakech too. I visited everything there is to visit within a day so it really is a place to relax and mellow out. Prices are a bit more reasonable when it comes to Morocco and the weather is nice (but constantly windy). Wouldn't recommend to anyone wanting an adrenaline rush

Sri Lanka is not ready for tourism. Besides scams and "cartel prices" for tuktuks and other services, it is unsafe for women. Men catcalling, touching, and groping are the norm.
