This city is not for everyone, if you like shopping malls and big crowded cities it is for you. It may be cheap but if you want to live in a good location with swimming pool, go to nice rooftops and restaurants, use taxis then it is similar cost to western countries. In many areas there are no sidewalks, big and dangerous traffic all the time, pollution, taxis do not want to go with meter, it can get really hot. Definitely try to live by the metro. Decent city, mainly because the people are so kind. But, it is a pain to get cash (spent a few hours every couple weeks trying Western Union after WU and never finding one with enough cash), and a lot of places don't take cards/the current exchange rate is a ripoff. However, BRING REPELLENT. The place is littered with mosquitos, and my partner and I both contracted dengue. He ended up in the hospital, and it was not a blast. Love it! Don't expect them to speak English, that is NOT their native language. If you're going to go, learn some Spanish and respect their culture. No gentrification in Mexico, please.

The other reviews are right—it's a good city with excellent value for money. The people are nice enough. The infrastructure is good. You *should* like it, but you don't—it's incredibly, incomprehensibly boring. The vibe is aggressively lukewarm. You will find more excitement in a rural Japanese village than here—I'm not joking.

Penang is really, really hot and humid. It's pretty affordable but it's relatively small. Personally, I think traveling Penang is great because you have a mix of cultures but I couldn't stay here for a longer time because it is so unbelievable hot.

I don't know exactly how Barcelona is still considered safe but it's far from it. It's probably the most dangerous city to live in Madrid and one of the most dangerous in europe, with constant pick-pocketing and even violent crimes to get your wallet and phone in certain areas. If you like a peaceful life, Barcelona is not the place anymore!!

It used to be a nice city for nomads, but its out-priced now and don't recommend it. I am reporting from Istanbul. The prices shown here are much lower than the current prices in Istanbul. (Prices are constantly increasing due to high inflation) For example, 1 beer costs $2 in markets, not in cafes! In cafes it is 4$ - also dinner is said to be 4$, but you can only eat a toasted bread for this money. To get an idea, a main course and a drink is at least $10.

Cool little town to live in and work from, I was there for 3 weeks in low season. Lots of great restaurants, cafes etc. Nice easy access to the beach, riverside and countryside. Nightlife is quieter, but if you don't care about that, it's great. The Hub coworking there is run by some super friendly people and the new location they are building looks like it should be fantastic..

I don't understand why London has so high safety rating. Your phone could be stolen and your bicycle WILL be stolen here (or a part of it). One of the cheapest cities in Portugal to live, since it's basically an university town. It's definitely a gem, with not so many distractions and perfect to get the work done. Coimbra has all the qualities of Portugal cities such as food, wine, safety, cultural events etc, everything quite low-cost oriented, specially accomodation -- you can find really good deals way cheaper than Lisbon or Porto.
